Zornotzako Barnetegia organises a programme of complementary activities aimed at all the students, whose objective is to encourage the use of Euskera among them.

These activities are very positive since, as they are carried out in a more relaxed environment (outside the classrooms), they generate a greater empathy towards Euskera.

Can I play sports in barnetegi?

Participation in these kinds of activities is voluntary, although the centre promotes them by means of participation campaigns. The aim of these campaigns is to increase participation through motivation. The students who take part in these activities obtain points. An electronic book, learning material, etc. are raffled among those who obtain most points.

The weekly agenda of complementary activities (6.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.) is varied:

  • Crafts
  • Dance courses
  • Bertsolaritza – Bertso afariak
  • Cookery courses
  • Guided sessions for the use of Euskera (mintzalaguna)
  • Visits to museums
  • Trips
  • Sporting activities

What can I do in barnetegi at afternoons

The programming is adapted to:

  1. The season, winter/summer. More outdoor activities are offered in the summer period. (Canoeing course in Urdaibai, trips, etc.).
  2. The profile and preferences of the students. With groups of young students the activities have a more sporting nature while with groups of students from foreign universities more tourist trips are programmed (visits to the Guggenheim, Gernika, etc.).

In the choice of activities and trips, events, fairs and activities linked to Basque culture take precedence: Saint Thomas, Saint Blas, the Fair on the last Monday of October in Gernika, Durangoko Azoka, etc., all in a festive atmosphere which facilitates interaction in Euskara.

From 9.00 p.m. students can take part in competitions and board games organized in the txoko in winter and on the outdoor terrace in summer. Films in Euskera are also shown.
